Yes, to all of you haters...there is trig in the Jay-Z video. Comment specifically on the trig visualizations in the music video. No repeat visualizations please! Good Luck!

Well the obvious ones would be the sine waves in the wires and bricks. or less obvious all the water drops create waves ones they hit the water a ripple is a sine wave. There is also alot of other math related stuff in the video such as geometry. there are rectangular lights behind the drummer.
ReplyDeleteThere are some sin and cos waves like the water. Also there is a pi sign that brandon pointed out in class. When they use the balls bouncing those if they were graphed would be sin or cos waves.
ReplyDeleteIn the music video they show a Jaguar and the wheels are kind of like a unit circle. The hub cap forms the unit circle like look. There were a lot more, like in the scene with the girl dancing on the luggage.
ReplyDeleteFirst and foremost, the entire video is filled with circles. The most noticeable of these circles is the circle that is made up of circles surrounding Jay-Z during the entire video. Also, he has circles on his glasses. Another image that may be related to trig (or at least geometry) is the geometric dome with the birds in it. The last example i'll give is that one side of the big bird in the video is reflected to form the other side.
ReplyDeleteThere is TONS of symmetry and reflection in this video! The wings of the birds, the smoke. It's all over the place!
ReplyDeleteThere's a sailboat in the video with three triangles. The larger one is a right triangle and the smaller ones look like two obtuse triangles.
ReplyDeleteRight at the begining, around 0:13... Looked like sin or cos waves. Also, all sound is alot of waves, and you can break that down into cos and sin waves!
ReplyDeleteWhen the dancers' dresses are all billowy n' stuff, they're making sin and cosine waves ~~~~~
ReplyDeleteobviously the sin and cos curves with the wires. There's also sin and cos waves on the wall behind the dancer. there's symmetry in the shots of wings, flame, and smoke. the ripples from the drops also make sin curves. In terms of shapes, the basketballs are perfect spheres, the burning dice is a cube. The brick wall has parallel lines, Jay Z's jacket is a grid, and one of the girl dancer's is wearing a grid mesh thing.
ReplyDeletethe shot of the finger print! it has a lot of waves. and the drummer twirls his drum stick. rotations what what
ReplyDeletethe tires on the jaguar are like the 4 quadtandts and angles in them. also, the trippy wing things are waving up and down like a sin/cos function
ReplyDeletethe fabric attached to the skirt that the girl who is dancing on top of the stack of suitcases is wearing, when blowing in the wind makes sine and cosine waves.
ReplyDeleteThe streamers that are attached to the sticks that the woman is holding are flowing behind her and making sine and cosine waves. There are obviously so many more, but other people have said them!
ReplyDeleteI thought that this video was a really interesting and different way of looking at math and the concepts and lessons we have been learning recently. In the video, surprisingly there are a lot of different examples of trigonometry and visuals. Stated from other students, there are obviously a lot. I too, noticed the hub caps, streamers, wires, and geometry, but one thing that points out to me is that in the still frame of this you tube video, you see parallel lines on the arms of the person. The ribbon bands on his or her arm is parallel to each other. Yay!
ReplyDeleteAt 28 seconds into the video there is a fingerprint. The fingerprint also has a lot of waves in it. The back of the Jag, where the trunk is, had a nice curve as if it was a cosine function. The curves on the basketball that is on fire as well as the flames. Swizz Beats jacket has a lot of sin, cos, tan, functions on it. HOV's sunglasses. The skull of the bull, the horns to be more specific. The rain drops.
ReplyDeleteThe song itself is a form of trigonometry, because if someone where to graph the song it would rise and fall over the x-axis as if it were cosine or sine.
ReplyDeleteThe various angles of the girl's arms and her long dress when she dances is all about trig because it they can be measured and graphed.
ReplyDelete1:15 the hair line of the clown guy looks like a sin or cos graph
ReplyDeleteThe car wheels were the most significant symmetry that I noticed. It was all over the place though!
ReplyDeletethe sin and cosine waves of the wires at about 0:12. the pleats in jay-z's jacket make lots of little x,y axises.

When the woman is waving the streamers, they form sine waves. Also, when the drummer is shown in the video, it shows a very mathematical instrument. I play drums, and I have to know where each drum is in relation to me, and I have to know how to extend my arm to hit each drum. This involves angles, and those angles constantly change as you move from one drum to the next.
ReplyDeleteThe ninja looking ladies is squatting and holding some can of streamers or swords and when the wind is blowing the streamers create waves, also The white wall shows waves when the curvy bulge extends from the wall.
ReplyDeleteAt 1:22 into the video there are flaming basketballs bouncing up and down. Just as those basketballs go up and down, so do sin waves.
