Scribe Post- Noemi- 1/26

Hey Everyone!
So today Jojo wasn't here today because the girls had a track meet (Good Luck by the way!)
So today in class we had a chance to catch up on the homework and continue preparing for the test on Wednesday. Remember the test is on Chapters 5.1-5.3
Don't Forget to finish the homework(assignments and flickr) and study! Its our last test before the final. So work hard and don't give up we are almost done! Nest Scribe is Nigel!

Scribe Post

On Friday in class we covered general homework problems, but the main thing that we covered was when to combined like terms and when not to. For example:

Picture of law of cosines

  • x² = 10² + 14² −2(10)(14)cos(44°)
  • x² = 296 −280cos(44)
  • x² = 94.6






  • One can not combined 296 to 280cos(44), because they are not like terms.

    Scribe Post- Isabel (4-22-10)


    SCRIBE POST
    Today in class we learned new information from this unit! Jojo wrote on the board a lot and we did some very interesting problems.
    Today we learned about:
    1. The Ambiguous case.
    2. how to do problems using certain rules for triangles based off of their sides (S) and angles (A).
    I have scanned my notes and posted them below because I think they are easier to understand than a typed format of the problems we did. My notes include the rules for ambiguous case, triangles, and two practice problems that Jojo did on the board.
    I hope that these notes were helpful. Today at the end of class Jojo said "I feel a daily quiz coming!", so prepare yourself! Tomorrow Jojo said he is planning on doing additional review for the test next week. Do not worry too much about final exams and have an excellent Friday and weekend.

    Upcoming:
    Our next test is Monday, April 26 and it covers chapters 5.1-5.3. Start getting ready for it so you don't have to worry about it during "Bash weekend"!

    Our Final Exam is on May 6 and it is the first exam of that day.
    The exam will cover: Trigonometry Chapter P, 1, 2.1, 3, 5.1-5.3.

    Angles & Degree Measure-Scribe Post-Moboss

    Hey Guys,
    We have began a new Chapter-Angles & Trigonometric Functions. In this post I will cover basic definitions and will provide you with examples.

    ANGLES
    Angles are made up of a couple of elements:
    - Angles: Defined as union of two rays with a common endpoint.
    - Ray: Defined as a point on a line together with all points of the line on one side of that point.
    - Vertex: Two rays with a common endpoint.
    - Initial Side: The fixed side of a ray.
    - Terminal Side: The rotating side of a ray.
    - Central Angle: Angle whose vertex is the center of a circle.
    - Intercepted Arc: Arc of circle through which the terminal side moves.
    - Standard Position: Angle in a rectangular coordinate system with a vertex in the origin and the initial side is the positive x-axis.

    DEGREE MEASURE OF AN ANGLE
    - Degree measure of an angle: Number of degrees in the intercepted arc of a circle centered at the vertex. The degree measure is positive if the rotation is counter clockwise and negative if the rotation is clockwise.

    TYPES OF ANGLES
    - Obtuse Angle: Angle between 90 degrees and 180 degrees.
    - Acute Angle: Angle between 0 degrees and 90 degrees.
    - Straight Angle: Angle exactly 180 degrees.
    - Right Angle: Angle exactly 90 degrees.
    - Quadrantal Angle: Angle whose terminal side is on an axis.

    TO BE COTERMINAL OR NOT TO BE?
    - Coterminal Angle: Has the same terminal side. Degree measures of the coterminal angles differ by a multiple of 360 degrees (one complete revolution).
    - Coterminal Angles: Angles that are on the same Quadrant.
    - Formula for finding Coterminal Angles:



    - Example:
    Find two positive angles and two negative angles that are coterminal with -50 degrees.

    Solution
    Simply choose two positive integers and two negative integers for the K in the formula
    . I will be using 1 & 2 for the positive integers. I will be using -1 & -2 for the negative integers.




    Angles:

    are coterminal with-50 degrees.

    DETERMINING IN WHICH QUADRANT AN ANGLE LIES



    - To determine the quadrant in which an angle lies, add or subtract multiples of (one revolution) to obtain a coterminal angle with a measure between 0 degrees and .
    ** Take the original number and either add or subtract according to whether the original number is positive or negative. When adding or subtracting the number of rotation add or subtract so that the solution is between 0 degrees and 360 degrees**
    - Example:
    , this means that -580 degrees is in the 3rd Quadrant.

    Scribe Post, Chapter 9, Charles 11/17/09

    Sooooo because Jojo has been struck with the bubonic plague for the past few days. Our schedules have been a lil bit off-ish between the 3 classes. Ya figgadeal me? So for some of you this may be a review of the day and for others you should consider reading this post as "getting ahead". It'll almost be as if you know what Jojo will say before he says it. In 3rd period today (SHOUT TO MY ClASSMATES) we started working on Chapter 9 which revolves around finding the Volume of 3-Dimensional geometric figures. As Jojo began his lecture today on Chapter 9 he introduced us to a "term" that helps describe a certain type of 3D geometric figure. This term is known as a...Dunh...Dunh ....DUUUUUNH.... "STUBBY" (or stubbies/stubbys for plural). This term is the first cousin once removed of the infamous "Animal" you've probably heard Jojo say a couple of times in class. Well a stubby is described as, " A 3D geometric figure that has the same shape for the base as it has for the top."

    cone2 But this cone cannot be classified as a stubby because even though it is a 3D geometric figure it does not have two bases that are the same shape.

    In order to find the volume of the stubby you must use the formula V=AH when V=volume, A=Area and H=Height.
    After all of these rules about the stubby were written down Coco Jadray caught wind of another headache due to his chronic bubonic plague therefore we sadly could not continue our lesson and we began to use what learned from the reading we did the night before and lesson we learned about our new friend the stubby and began to do our homework. This consisted of knowing all the formulas to find the volume of the geometric figures we will be studying in class. Soooooo I took the liberty of finding some brief videos that will help give us the basic idea of how to use the formulas and find the volume of the different geometric figures given on present and future homework, DQs, and tests.

    Katherine Scribe Post Monday October 26

    Hey Guys!
    Yesterday during class we started with JoJo checking our homework. He said that we are better off to do our homework even if we know it's wrong, because if he just checks it you will get a hundred, and your work is worth much more than the right answers. Also, he said that you can always get late credit for work that wasn't finished on time, so even if you can't manage to finish it on time, make sure to finish it by the next day.
    Don't try and guess when JoJo is going to check, just do the homework.
    When doing your homework it always helps to draw a picture, it makes things clearer as to what you are missing.
    We would all benefit from forming study groups that meet regularly. The input of all the people together is usually going to have the correct result for a question.
    Yesterday we were trying to discover the benefits and value of a study group. We all got into groups that JoJo assigned us, and worked on one problem from the homework. We will stay in the same groups for tomorrows class and take 15 minutes to present our question to the class, so that we all come to a great understanding of all of the problems.

    Venn Diagram Scribe Post


    Today in class we learned about venn diagrams. We all got into groups and tried to make an accurate interpretation of a venn diagram for quadrilaterals. In the end Jojo showed us what were the faults in our diagrams. A proper example of the quadrilateral venn diagram should look something like this.
    We learned about how venn diagrams are strait forward, but will require some critical thinking. For example, in our diagram we had to struggle with the fact that all squares are rectangles, that all squares are rhombuses, but rectangles and rhombuses aren't always squares.
    Many groups had incorrect diagrams because they didn't know the proper definitions of different quadrilaterals. Don't just know what the shape looks like, know the definition of it.

    Scribe Guidelines

    (NEW!) Scribe Guidelines
    The kind of post I'd like you to make should have one or more of these characteristics:

    • * A reflection on a particular class (like the first paragraph above).

    • * A reflective comment on your progress in the course.

    • * A remark on something that you've learned that you thought was "cool".

    • * A remark about something that you found very hard to understand but now you get it! Describe what sparked that "moment of clarity" and what it felt like.

    • * Have you come across something we discussed in class out there in the "real world" or another class? Describe the connection you made.

    One might describe the role of writing a scribe like this.

    A scribe post is basically like you are teaching the class again, but this time in your words in a way that other people can understand it. You can also recap other important things that we talk about in class, so that if someone was away in our class, they would know what they missed. Also don't forget that when you scribe, you get the power to choose the next scribe.

    Be sure to Title your scribe post properly ("First Name", "Unit Title"). Be sure to Label your post as Scribe Post.

    When you are done as the class scribe, visit the class roles page to name a new scribe for the following day!
